Dropbox Setup

Set up PocketBook EPUB delivery through Dropbox with automatic daily sync.

PocketBook via Dropbox

Sync Fiction uploads EPUB files to your PocketBook Dropbox sync folder. When new chapters are published, the updated EPUB appears on your device automatically.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

    A Dropbox account (sign up free)
  • •
    A PocketBook e-reader with Wi-Fi
  • •
    A Sync Fiction account (create one here)
  • •
    Access to your PocketBook's Settings → Accounts and Synchronization → Dropbox

Overview

  1. •
    Royal Road Sync — Sync Fiction fetches fiction metadata and all chapters
  2. •
    EPUB Generation — Converts chapters to a properly formatted EPUB file
  3. •
    Dropbox Sync — Uploads EPUBs to the Apps/Dropbox PocketBook folder in your Dropbox

Once setup is complete, new chapters are automatically processed and synced to your Dropbox daily. Your PocketBook downloads them when connected to Wi-Fi.

Set Up Your PocketBook

Configure your PocketBook to sync with Dropbox. Dropbox sync is built in — no installation needed.

Good news

You don't need to install anything on your PocketBook. Dropbox sync is built in — you just need to authorize the service.

Authorization Steps

    Enable Wi-Fi on your PocketBook
  2. •
    Open Settings from the main menu
  3. •
    Go to Accounts and Synchronization
  4. •
    Select Dropbox
  5. •
    Tap Login and enter your Dropbox credentials
  6. •
    Complete the authorization

What Happens After Authorization

Folder creation:

  • •
    A "Dropbox PocketBook" sync folder appears in your device's Library
  • •
    An Apps/Dropbox PocketBook directory is created in your Dropbox account

Automatic sync:

  • •
    Files added to the Dropbox PocketBook folder sync to your device when connected to Wi-Fi
  • •
    Sync happens automatically whenever your PocketBook has an active Wi-Fi connection

Manual sync:

  • •
    From Settings → Accounts and Synchronization → Dropbox → "Synchronize files now"
  • •
    Or long-press the "Dropbox PocketBook" folder in your Library and select "Synchronize files now"

Sync folder location

The default sync folder is "Dropbox PocketBook". You can change this in Settings → Accounts and Synchronization → Dropbox → Sync folder.

Connect Your Dropbox Account

Connect your Dropbox account to Sync Fiction so we can upload EPUB files to your PocketBook sync folder.

    Sign in to Sync Fiction
  2. •
    Go to the Provider page
  3. •
    Click Connect Dropbox — you'll be redirected to Dropbox for authorization
  4. •
    Sign in to Dropbox and authorize Sync Fiction
  5. •
    You'll be redirected back with a success message

You should see

A green "Connected" badge on your Provider page with your Dropbox account listed.

About Dropbox permissions

Sync Fiction requests read/write access to your Dropbox because the PocketBook sync folder lives under Apps/Dropbox PocketBook, and Dropbox's API requires broad access to reach other apps' folders. We only upload EPUB files to that specific folder — we never read or modify your other files.

Add Royal Road Fictions

  1. •
    Find the Royal Road fiction you want to read
  2. •
    Copy the URL or the numeric ID (e.g. both https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/12345/story-name and 12345 work)
  3. •
    Go to your Library in Sync Fiction
  4. •
    Paste the URL or ID in the "Add Fiction" field and click Add
  5. •
    Wait for processing — this can take a few minutes for long fictions

Processing time

First-time processing can take several minutes for large fictions as all chapters are fetched. Previously synced fictions take just a few seconds. You'll see status badges ("EPUB ready" / "EPUB pending") in your Library.

You should see

The fiction appears in your Library with an "EPUB ready" badge once processing is complete.

Ongoing Sync & Updates

Once everything is set up, Sync Fiction handles updates automatically:

    Daily checks for new chapters on Royal Road
  • •
    Automatic EPUB regeneration when new content is found
  • •
    Updated files uploaded to your Dropbox Apps/Dropbox PocketBook folder
  • •
    PocketBook auto-sync downloads the updated EPUBs when connected to Wi-Fi

Tip

Keep Wi-Fi enabled on your PocketBook for automatic sync. You can also manually sync anytime using the context menu in your Dropbox PocketBook folder.

Troubleshooting

EPUBs not appearing on PocketBook?

Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. Try a manual sync: Settings → Accounts → Dropbox → "Synchronize files now". Check your Dropbox Apps/Dropbox PocketBook folder — if the EPUB is there, the issue is on the device side.

Dropbox connection failed?

Try disconnecting and reconnecting on the Provider page. Clear your browser cookies for Dropbox and try again. Make sure you're signing into the same Dropbox account your PocketBook uses.

EPUB is in Dropbox but not updating on device?

PocketBook syncs periodically when connected to Wi-Fi. A manual sync pulls the latest files immediately.

No EPUB file uploaded yet?

Wait until your Library shows the green "EPUB ready" badge before expecting files in Dropbox.
