RAG chat, chapter recaps, and character extraction for all Sync Fiction users.

Overview

Sync Fiction includes AI-powered features that help you get more out of the fictions you read. These features work on any fiction in the system — you don't need to own or subscribe to a fiction to use them.

All AI features are available to all users.

RAG Chat

RAG Chat lets you ask questions about any fiction and get answers grounded in the actual text. It uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to find relevant passages and generate accurate responses.

How to use it

    Open any fiction's detail page
  2. •
    Open the AI Panel and select Chat
  3. •
    Type your question (e.g. "What happened to the protagonist in chapter 12?" or "How does the magic system work?")
  4. •
    The AI searches through the fiction's content and responds with relevant information

Spoiler awareness

RAG Chat searches across all available chapters. If you haven't caught up yet, responses may contain spoilers from later chapters.

Chapter Recaps

Recaps provide AI-generated summaries of chapters, helping you remember what happened before continuing a fiction you haven't read in a while.

How to use it

    Open the AI Panel and select Recap
  3. •
    Choose which chapters you want to recap
  4. •
    The AI generates a summary of the key events

Processing time

Recaps are generated on demand and may take a moment depending on chapter length.

Character Extraction

Sync Fiction automatically extracts characters from fictions, building a reference of who appears in each story.

How to use it

    Open any fiction's detail page
  2. •
    Navigate to the Characters section
  3. •
    Browse the extracted characters and their descriptions

Spoiler gate

You can set a spoiler gate to limit character information to only the chapters you've read, avoiding spoilers from later content.

FAQ

Do AI features cost extra?

No. AI features are included for all users.

Can I use AI features on any fiction?

Yes. All fictions in the system are accessible for RAG Chat, recaps, and character extraction — you don't need to have the fiction in your Library.

Why is the AI response inaccurate?

RAG Chat works best with specific questions. Broad or ambiguous questions may return less relevant results. Try rephrasing your question to be more specific.

Why does the AI mention events I haven't read yet?

RAG Chat searches across all chapters. Use the spoiler gate feature on character pages to limit information to chapters you've read.

What models does Sync Fiction use?

Sync Fiction uses OpenAI for text embeddings and Google's generative AI for batch processing (recaps, character extraction, Q&A generation).
