General Guide
Quick start, troubleshooting, and delivery basics for Sync Fiction.
What is Sync Fiction?
Sync Fiction tracks web fiction from Royal Road and delivers it to your e-reader automatically. When a new chapter is published, we fetch it, rebuild the EPUB, and send the updated file to your Kindle or PocketBook — no manual downloading required. This guide covers how to get set up, what each feature does, and how to fix common problems.
Quick Start
Connect a Provider
Choose a delivery method that fits your device:
- •PocketBook: Use Dropbox or Send-to-PocketBook via Email
- •Kindle: Use Email (Send-to-Kindle) with an approved sender
Add Fictions
Find the Royal Road fiction you want to read and paste its full URL (or copy the numeric ID from the URL). Add it in your Library. Sync Fiction fetches metadata and chapters automatically. The Add field accepts either format.
First-time processing
Large fictions may take a few minutes to process on first add. Subsequent updates are much faster.
Automatic Updates
Sync Fiction checks for new chapters daily, regenerates EPUBs, and delivers via your connected providers. In your Library, look for badges indicating EPUB readiness and any pending chapters.
You should see
Your Library shows a green "EPUB ready" badge, and your device receives the file within a few minutes of delivery.
How It Works
- •Royal Road Sync — fetches metadata and chapters from Royal Road
- •EPUB Generation — formats content, images, and metadata into an EPUB file
- •Delivery — uploads to Dropbox or sends via email depending on your setup
Resilient pipeline
Each step is queued and retries automatically on failure. You can also re-trigger delivery from your Provider page at any time.
Library Status
Your Library shows status badges for each fiction:
| Badge | Color | Meaning | |---|---|---| | EPUB ready | Green | The EPUB has been generated and is ready for delivery | | EPUB pending | Gray | EPUB generation is still in progress | | Pending chapters | Yellow | New chapters detected but not yet processed | | Updated | — | Shows when the fiction was last synced |
Badges update automatically after background jobs finish. If you just added a fiction, give it a minute — refresh the page to see the latest status.
EPUB Uploads
You can upload your own EPUB files to Sync Fiction for delivery to your e-reader. This is useful if you have EPUBs from other sources and want to use the same delivery pipeline.
- •Go to your Library and open the Uploads tab
- •Click Upload and select an EPUB file from your device
- •Once uploaded, the EPUB appears in your Library and can be delivered via your connected providers
Upload limits
Uploaded EPUBs are private — only you can access them.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
EPUB not appearing in your Library?
Large fictions can take several minutes to process on first add. Refresh the page after a few minutes and look for the "EPUB ready" badge.
Email delivery not arriving?
- •
- •Check that your email address in Provider → Email is correct.
- •See Email Setup troubleshooting for Kindle or PocketBook for device-specific steps.
Dropbox files not syncing to PocketBook?
- •Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your PocketBook.
- •Try a manual sync: Settings → Accounts → Dropbox → "Synchronize files now".
- •See Dropbox Setup troubleshooting for more.
Hit your daily email limit?
Manual email sends are limited per day. The limit resets at midnight UTC. Automatic daily deliveries are not affected.
Fiction stuck on "pending chapters"?
This usually means the background job is still running. Wait a few minutes and refresh. If it persists for more than 30 minutes, try removing and re-adding the fiction.
I added a fiction but cannot send it yet.
Wait until the EPUB finishes generating. Check for the "EPUB ready" badge in your Library.
Can I use both Dropbox and email delivery?
Yes. You can connect both providers and use whichever you prefer for each fiction.
Can I use Sync Fiction with Kobo or other e-readers?
Sync Fiction currently supports Kindle (via email) and PocketBook (via Dropbox or email). Other devices are not supported yet.
What AI features are available?
